Meathead Movers

This review of a one star is strictly based on the operations/communication side of the company. The movers themselves were fantastic!
We were getting quotes a month ago when we found out we were moving. We spoke to a rep named Marc and spent about 45min on the phone call. My husband specifically stated that I was pregnant therefore we want to hire someone who will PACK and move us. We spent 45 min going through inventory of our entire home. The rep, Marc explained how the main things we needed to do were to take pictures down, and move breakables that we didn’t want to risk getting broken. He stated they have specific dish boxes that will carry and transport our dishes. We double checked the quote and signed. It stated they were bringing 76 boxes with them on the inventory in our quote. Moving day comes…. The movers get there and state they only move boxes that were previously packed. My husband and I spent the next 6 hours off and on the phone with the manager Jordan. He was unhelpful. He states we didn’t pay for the “box bundle”. We had never even heard that term. Marc never mentioned that term on the phone. Per Jordan and 2 other reps I spoke with on the phone that day that were also not helpful stated “oh yeah you didn’t buy the box bundle” and claimed they would listen to the recorded conversation my husband had with Marc for the original quote. No one was answering our questions, honestly no one seemed to care. I don’t even think anyone listened to the true conversation because every time I brought up specific phrases that my husband asked and Marc responded to all they said was “it’s a misunderstanding”. I was very upset, I was 32 weeks pregnant at the time and had to go back and forth to my old house and finish packing my
House for the next week because the job wasn’t done. One of the reps said he would try and get that cost covered and send out someone to get the rest of our stuff, then my husband called another rep and they said no they can’t do that. The communication or LACK of was so unprofessional. The manager Jordan did not once try and make it right or help the situation. I even sent him the quote to read and he had no answer for me. We ended up having to pay the max amount until my husband called after he wrote the check saying we could get a little bit off since they didn’t even move the amount of boxes Marc quoted us at. Horrible experience. Never will we use this company again.

Customer service was very attentive and Meathead also provides concierge services for utilities and other moving needs. However, I was less than impressed with the packing and moving experience. While the staff were all super nice, some of the practices were questionable and service was slow.
Packing: most boxes were not packed full, which resulted in an expensive change order for more boxes. Packers did not use much judgement in what they packed, for instance at one point MY PURSE was packed, all of the dog leashes (even though they knew the dog was traveling for the move), and even my laptop that wasn’t even powered down (with the charger in a separate box). Bulky items like pillows were packed taking up entire boxes, again, resulting in a change order for more boxes. Wall art and framed items were not boxed, so they are now unboxed in the storage unit. There just didn’t seem to be much understanding that we were unloading into a storage unit as opposed to a second home where things would be immediately accessible.
Loading: When I’ve moved previously, it’s taken 3-5 hours to load up the truck. It took 7 hours to load, and that was with double the help I’ve had previously. This resulted in getting a very late start to our destination and the movers getting a 4.5 hour later start the following day to unload.
Unloading: We were unloading into a storage unit, so no directing what rooms for furniture or putting furniture back together. That still took 6 hours. An hour of that was spent folding up blankets which could have occurred after everything else was done or back at headquarters, but it didn’t need to occur while the customer was waiting. They did do a fantastic job fitting everything into the storage unit! But I also had to get a bigger storage unit than estimated, partially due to additional unfilled boxes.
Everyone was very kind and very customer service oriented, but I’ve moved approximately every 2 years for the past decade and this ended up being one of the more expensive and less pleasant experiences overall. I’m bummed because I really had high hopes because the customer service was so good.
