We used Roy’s 2 years ago. They were fast and efficient. Come payment time it got ugly. We were quoted based on time and materials but they were insisting on paying them based on a fixed rate that included 2 extra hours. We pushed back and they refused to leave the house. The lead guy spoke broken English so that didn’t make things any easier and when we said we would pay based on time and materials and call the office on the next business day to work things out, the guy became aggressive, confrontational, and made us extremely uncomfortable. My 9 month pregnant wife was terrified. Eventually we asked him to leave after nearly an hour of arguing. The 3 other guys in the truck were beeping the horn constantly, which wasn’t helpful. I thought it was going to end with a call to 911. Beware of these guys.
I had used Roy’s Moving several times in the past, and they have always been friendly and efficient, but that was when I was just moving from one part of Boston to another.
This time, my move was very complicated. Long story short, I was evicted from my 1-bedroom apartment months ago and have been living with family since then. I didn’t have much at my family home, as most of my belongings were removed to storage when I was removed from the apartment. I had finally found a room in a large house that I could rent, but I would have to put most of my stuff back into storage, closer to where I now live. So… I informed them right from the beginning that the move would be complicated. As I didn’t know what the eviction movers put in each box, I would have to look inside each box to determine if it was something that could come with me or needed to be stored.
So, the first leg of the move went OK. Then we got to the first storage unit. I told the moving crew multiple times that some stuff was coming with me while some needed to be stored. Some of it was obvious – the bed was coming with me, for example. But when I tried to take 10 seconds to look into each unlabeled box, they told me we didn’t have time for that. I told them that was what I had specifically instructed the company when I booked the move a month ago. They said that they weren’t told that. So, either the management ignored my specifications, failing to pass them on to the crew, or the crew was being deliberately difficult. Either way, I am now in my new room SURROUNDED by boxes that are not labeled (from eviction) that I now have to move out of the room by myself (I’m no spring chicken!) before I can even put my furniture where it needs to go. One of the tasks the crew was supposed to do (that they said on their website that they would) was to set up my bed and other furniture in my new place. They didn’t do that. They just jammed as much as they could into one 11×17 room. I don’t have any idea what is in most of these boxes, and I will likely not be properly settled in here for weeks as I find the time and energy to move all those boxes out of the room, arrange my furniture, unpack the boxes of stuff I need, and move the stuff I don’t need to the new storage unit, where I will likely need to retrieve other boxes that should have come with me in the first place.
All of this cost me $1500. And when I went to pay for it using my debit card, I was charged an extra 3.4% for credit card processing, adding another $50+ to the total! Was I expected to pay them $1500 in cash?? Who has time to go to the bank while preparing for a move to withdraw (and then carry around with me) that much money?
I will NEVER use Roy’s again. Apparently, being a repeat customer holds no weight with them.
The guys were courteous, professional, they returns calls, strong, and efficient. Great!
I’d like to thank George and his crew of two – Oscar V. and Rafael for a great move today. We moved 3 times with these folks in the last 3 months and they took great care of us and all our things. They go the extra mile to make sure we are pleased with the service. Best of everything and thanks again.
My husband and I cannot be more impressed with the moving job this morning! A team of 2 arrived right on time, packed our fine china, wine glasses and exp art carefully, cautiously and swiftly. Clearly this business is high quality, and very professional! The gentleman were thorough, polite and courteous.
We would never hesitate to use this co. again and will highly recommend.
