A-1 Movers

My son is moving from Massachusetts to Washington State and I was storing his furniture and personal effects at my house. I called A-1 movers for a quote and advice on how to best get his things across the country. The owner was knowledgeable and provided me with advice on options that has worked out very well.

I arranged for two 8 ft UBox containers to be delivered to my house on Thursday afternoon from UHaul which were placed in my driveway limiting access to my garage. U-Haul recommended pick up for Saturday to make sure there was no risk of the containers not being ready when I arrived but based on recommendations from others I decided to trust A-1 movers to complete the move in the morning.

The team of Curtis, Alec, and Greg arrived promptly at 8 am on Friday and took a very professional and efficient approach to the move. As I work remotely I asked that they clear things out of the room that doubles as my work space which they did so that I was able to work starting at 9am.

They were efficient, professional and courteous, completing the move in just a few hours with minimum disruption to my work day. They finished in plenty of time for UHaul to pick up the containers on Friday afternoon freeing up my driveway!

The price was reasonable and I would recommend A-1 movers to anyone who does not require the moving company to provide their own truck.

Avoid A-1 Movers from Swansea at All Costs!

I recently had the misfortune of hiring A-1 Movers from Swansea for my move. The experience was disastrous, and I would not recommend them to anyone.

When I booked the move, the owner specifically asked me to provide only a truck, assuring me that they would bring all necessary supplies. However, when the two movers, Man A and Man B, arrived without calling ahead as promised, Man A, the lead, apologized for the oversight, explaining that they had some problems earlier that led to the miscommunication. Man B seemed frustrated and mentioned that the owner had not provided them with moving supplies. When Man B complained about the lack of supplies, Man A responded that they had a roll of shrink wrap. Unfortunately, that was the only supply they brought – no bed bags, no tape, and no other necessary materials.

As we began the move, Man B asked for tape, and I provided him with an almost full roll. However, he soon requested more tape, and I questioned why they didn’t bring enough supplies. Man B responded gruffly, and the lead intervened, stating that customers are expected to provide supplies, including tape.

I informed the lead that I was not aware of this requirement and that the owner had told me they would bring the supplies. Shortly after, the owner called me, yelling on the phone, and accused me of stressing out his workers. I remained calm and explained the situation, but the owner continued to yell, stating that it is common sense for the person moving to provide tape and that no moving company brings tape. I disagreed, citing my past experiences with other moving companies that provided all necessary supplies, including tape. The owner’s tone became increasingly aggressive, and he threatened to pull his guys off the job if I didn’t stop speaking. I again requested that he speak to me in a calm and professional voice, as I had been doing with him. I told him that if he couldn’t maintain a respectful tone, he might as well follow through on his threat and leave the job.

After the owner’s outburst, I asked the lead if I had indeed stressed them out, and he assured me that I had not. He stated that they were willing to continue with the move, but the owner had instructed them to leave. The lead apologized for the inconvenience, and they departed, leaving me to find alternative moving arrangements.

The owner’s threat to pull his team was clearly intended to leave me stranded, but fortunately, I was able to find a reliable alternative in Two Men and a Truck, who were able to accommodate my move the very next day.

In contrast, I hired a second company, Two Men and a Truck, who provided excellent service. They arrived on time with an additional man and additional truck, brought all necessary supplies, including tape, and completed the move without incident.

Comparison: A-1 Movers charges $175/hour for two guys, while Two Men and a Truck charges $245/hour for four guys and a truck. The difference in service and professionalism is staggering.

Conclusion: Avoid A-1 Movers from Swansea due to their poor customer service, lack of transparency, and unprofessional behavior. The owner’s rudeness and inability to communicate effectively made the experience even more frustrating.

We found out about A-1 movers via a Google search. Greg and Alec were our movers. Perfect gentleman and did an amazing job. They took great care of all items! I would highly recommend them to anyone planning a move.
